Tumor necrosis factor-α and its receptors in epithelial ovarian cancer

چکیده
The aim of the present study was to characterize the expression pattern of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and its receptors (TNF-Rs) in the epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and compare these results with the outcome of 126 patients. Presence of TNF-α, TNFR-1 and TNFR-2 were studied by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry. The proportion of samples positive for TNF-α and TNF-R2 was higher in epithelial ovarian cancer patients than in benign ovarian diseases (p<0.001 and p=0.016, respectively). Immunostaining intensity of TNF-R2 were correlated with tumor stage (p<0.001) and with reduced mean survival time (MST) (p=0.002). The results of the present study suggested that tissue expression of TNFR2 in epithelial ovarian cancer was correlated with the highest risk of cancer progression. Thus, the clinical value of activated TNF system in epithelial ovarian cancer needs to be further investigated.

Increased Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha Expression as an Inflammatory Response Indicator and a Cancer Risk in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
Background: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a pro-inflammatory condition that supports the development of metabolic aberration and ovarian dysfunction. Chronic inflammation and the increased levels of androgens in this group of patients and their impact on the immune system may increase the risk of developing malignancies, including ovarian cancer. Thus, we interacted ovarian tumor cells ...

Background and Objective: Breast cancer is a genetic and chronic inflammatory disease with an increasing incidence among Iranian women. Researchers have shown that regular exercise is presumed to have prophylactic effect and adjuvant therapy in inhibition of tumor growth. So the aim of this study was to assess the effect of endurance training on serum TNF-α in breast cancer bearing mice. Materi...
متن کاملFallopian Tube Carcinoma: A Case Report and Review of Litrature
Primary fallopian tube carcinoma is a rare tumor that histologically and clinically resembles epithelial ovarian cancer. Here we introduce a case of tubal carcinoma in a postmenopausal woman. The diagnosis of primary fallopian tube carcinoma is rarely considered preoperatively and is usually first appreciated by the pathologist. Because of low frequency of tubal carcinoma, there are few systemi...
متن کاملTumor necrosis factor and its receptors in human ovarian cancer. Potential role in disease progression.
The gene for tumor necrosis factor, TNF, was expressed in 45 out of 63 biopsies of human epithelial ovarian cancer. In serous tumors, there was a positive correlation between level of TNF expression and tumor grade. TNF mRNA was found in epithelial tumor cells and infiltrating macrophages, whereas TNF protein localized primarily to a subpopulation of macrophages within and in close proximity to...
متن کاملCoexistence of Benign Brenner Tumor with Mucinous Cystadenoma in an Ovarian Mass
Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecologic malignancy. The surface epithelial tumor is the most common type of ovarian cancer. Among these, the mucinous tumors account for 10-15% of ovarian tumors. Mucinous ovarian tumors are among the most difficult ovarian neoplasms for surgical pathologists to interpret. Mucinous tumors sometimes coexist with other surface epithelial tumors. Therefore, ma...
